Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Mansholt, Bishop

Born
in Alton, Ill., the Rev. Dr. Gerald L. Mansholt grew up in Bunker
Hill, Ill., and was graduated from Concordia Senior College of
Fort Wayne, Ind. in 1970 and from Christ Seminary-Seminex, St.
Louis, Mo. in 1974. He received his Doctor of Ministry from Lutheran
School of Theology in Chicago in 1989.
Ordained
in 1974, Rev. Mansholt served as pastor at First Lutheran Church,
Chickasha, Okla. from 1974-1975; Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church,
Chickasha, Okla. from 1975-1981; Living Christ Lutheran Church,
Florissant, Mo. from 1981-1995; and Reformation Lutheran Church,
Wichita, Kan. from 1995-2001. He was elected bishop of the Central
States Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in
June 2001 and took office in Nov. 2001. Bishop Mansholt was re-elected
at the 2007 Synod Assembly to another six-year term.
Bishop
Mansholt serves on the board of the ELCA Division for Congregational
Ministries as well as the board of Bethany College, Lindsborg,
Kan. His wife, Anita, teaches mathematics at Notre Dame de Sion
middle school in Kansas City, Mo. The Mansholts are the parents
of two daughters, Christa and Monica.
